A constitutional amendment to ban the desecration of the U.S. flag moved closer to reality Wednesday 6/22 when the House of Representatives passed it 286-130. While this isn’t the first time this has happened, I’m still concerned by the notion of such a bill making it out of the Senate.
Here’s a quick blurb from the USA Today article:
Source: kevin pereira dot comThe amendment reads, "The Congress shall have power to prohibit the physical desecration of the flag of the United States." Supporters say the flag should be protected because it symbolizes the freedoms many have died to defend. Flag burning "is a challenge to the institution that defends liberty," Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Ga., said. "Our flag deserves to be respected and protected because it is more than just star-studded fabric."
