Home Security - When one sword in hand deserves another...

Who said chivalry was dead...

"It was a woman screaming," he recalled Tuesday. "She was screaming for help."

Sword in hand, he bounded up the stairs, kicked in the door and confronted a man who turned out to be alone - watching a pornographic movie.

"Now I feel stupid," Van Iveren said.

Worse yet, police seized his sword - a family heirloom - carted him to jail and referred the case to a prosecutor who charged Van Iveren with three criminal counts.

Home Security - Apperanntly TV can Kill You!

Mummified body found in Hampton Bays home
Southampton police responding to burst water pipes in a Hampton Bays home found the mummified body of the owner -- dead for more than a year -- sitting in a chair in front of a television, officials said Friday.

The television was still on.

Vincenzo Ricardo, 70, appeared to have died of natural causes in his home on Wakeman Road, said Dr. Stuart Dawson, Suffolk deputy chief medical examiner.

The medical examiner's office considered his body mummified because the lack of humidity in his home preserved his features, morgue assistant Jeff Bacchus said.

Home Security - Man dies when large hole opens in home

If not one hole it's another...
It was like a scene from a horror film: A 27-year-old man plummeted into a gaping hole that suddenly opened beneath a house, trapping him beneath foundation rubble and killing him.

"It's unbelievable," Placer County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Dena Erwin said. "From the front of the house, it's absolutely normal. Then, in the middle of the house, is this enormous hole."

The victim was awake and on the ground floor about 9:30 p.m. Friday when the concrete foundation near the kitchen gave way, sending him plunging into to the ground, Erwin said.

Home Security - Flaming Mouse Burns Down House

Damn and it's not even Friday...

FORT SUMNER, N.M. -- You've probably heard of a house fire, but how about a "mouse fire?"

An 81-year-old Fort Sumner homeowner said he caught a mouse inside his house and just wanted to get rid of it.

The man threw the critter in a pile of burning leaves near his home, but it ran back to the house on fire.

Village Fire Chief Juan Chavez said the mouse ran to just beneath a window and the flames spread up the window and throughout the house.

All contents of the home were destroyed, but no injuries were reported, Chavez said.

Unseasonably dry and windy conditions have charred more than 53,000 acres and destroyed 10 homes in southeastern New Mexico in recent weeks.
